Our story

One ordinarySunday.

A year ago, if you’d asked me where I saw myself today, I would’ve told you about my big dreams. They would’ve sounded ambitious, exciting and full of purpose.

But behind all those dreams, the truth was a little different.

I was lost. I was confused. And despite everything I was working towards, I wasn’t content.

Something was missing. I just didn’t know what.

One ordinary Sunday, after an immersive yoga class, I found myself on the hunt for coffee.

After plenty of indecisive back and forth with a friend, we landed at Ciel Cafe in South Melbourne.

I ordered a coffee flight, followed by another coffee, and then a matcha to balance things out. Naturally.

But when I went to pay, I was told someone had already covered my bill.

My first thought? I must have a secret admirer.

Turns out, it was someone from the church next door.

Curious, I asked a few questions and discovered their service was about to begin. So I walked in.

I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know anyone. And I certainly didn’t know that this seemingly insignificant moment would change my life.

But it did.

I returned the following Sunday, and the Sunday after that. Eventually, my aunty introduced me to a church closer to home, where I found a community that became family.

What began as curiosity became a journey of faith.

I began to understand what it meant to surrender. To let go of the things I had built my identity around. To step away from what was familiar and trust God with what came next.

And for the first time, I wasn’t searching for the next big thing to fulfil me.

I’d found something greater. I’d found Jesus.

I did have A secret admirer after all.

It was God, pursuing me the entire time.

And that’s whereCana began.

Looking back, I see that Sunday differently now.

God met me exactly where I was. Not through anything extravagant, but through something so familiar to me.

Coffee. Duh.

A simple act of generosity opened a door I never knew I needed to walk through. And that became the heartbeat behind Cana.

What if something as ordinary as a cup of coffee could become the beginning of something extraordinary?

What if the same thing that brought me into an encounter with Jesus could create opportunities for others to encounter Him too?

That’s why Cana exists.

Someone once used a cup of coffee to introduce me to Jesus. Now, I want to use coffee to create that opportunity for someone else.

Coffee can do more than get you through the day.

We’re here to make great coffee. But we believe a good cup can also:

  1. 01Bring people together.
  2. 02Start conversations.
  3. 03Build community.
  4. 04Create moments of generosity.
  5. 05Open doors that might otherwise stay closed.

Through Cana, we want to create spaces where faith and everyday life meet.

And you don’t need to share our faith to pull up a chair. Cana is specialty coffee for everyone. Our faith is simply the reason behind it.

That journey is where our roasts get their names

Because sometimes, all it takes is one small act of kindness to change the direction of someone’s life.I know, because it changed mine.

We believe the ordinary isn’t empty.

It’s madefor more.

And so are you.
